Certificate Course in Enhance Diplomatic Skills (EDS)

Background

Enhanced Diplomatic Skills course has been offered seven times from 2015 to 2024. This course is open to individuals who have successfully completed the Basic Diplomatic Skills Training and are interested in diplomacy.

The course duration is two months.

Course Objectives

  • To enhance participants’ knowledge, analytical capabilities, and practical competencies in diplomacy, international relations, and foreign affairs through advanced and practice-oriented learning.
  • To contribute to national development by cultivating professionals with enhanced diplomatic skills, strategic thinking, negotiation, and leadership capabilities to address the challenges of an increasingly interconnected global environment.

Course Structure

The program’s framework is built upon four separate clauses:

  1. The Approach, strengthening participants’ existing knowledge through advanced concepts, analytical approaches, and practical applications in diplomacy and international affairs;
  2. The Specialization – providing in-depth learning in specialized areas of diplomacy, international relations, law and economics.
  3. The Application – enhancing participants’ professional competencies through case studies, simulations, policy discussions, and practical exercises that reflect real-world diplomatic challenges; and
  4. The Outcome – enabling participants to develop advanced diplomatic skills, strategic thinking, and leadership capabilities, empowering them to contribute effectively to national development and the conduct of international relations.

Syllabus

The eight-week course covered the subjects related to Diplomacy, Contemporary International Affairs, International Relations, International Law, Economics and General knowledge. The trainees submitted group research papers on the topics related to contemporary international affairs, global security and economic developments followed by delivering the group presentations as a part of practical training on respective research papers.

Course Duration and Schedule

The program spans a standard duration of 8 weeks.

Designed to accommodate professionals from both the public and private sectors, sessions are conveniently scheduled during off-office hours, running from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

Admission Requirements and Enrollment

To be eligible for the program, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree.

Successful completion of the Certificate Course in Basic Diplomatic Skills is a mandatory prerequisite for enrollment in the Certificate Course in Enhanced Diplomatic Skills.

The application process requires the submission of criminal record clearance and residency verifications from local police and township administration authorities, alongside an official institutional endorsement for serving civil servants.

Final selection is merit-based, conducted via a formal oral examination overseen by the department.
To ensure an optimal learning environment, enrollment is limited to 50 participants per cohort.
